Marketa Burnett, a graduate student in Developmental Psychology, is the recipient of a 2017 Initiative for Minority Excellence Top-Up Award.

The Initiative for Minority Excellence (IME) at UNC Graduate School focuses on retention and the successful graduation of under-represented minority graduate students through academic, success, professional training, and community development. IME creates a foundation for success in graduate education by building a cohesive and supportive network through professional development, social activities, and peer mentoring, offering resources support and guidance, providing faculty advocates to champion for students, and addressing financial issues that impact retention and time to degree.
