Cognitive Science Minor

Requirements include:

  • PSYC 330 (offered once per year)
    • Prerequisites include PSYC 101 and 210
  • Four additional courses, from at least 2 disciplinary areas, at least two of which must be numbered 400 or above:
    • Behavioral (ANTH 143, BIOL 278, 455; INLS 512; PSYC 222, 225, 230, 425, 430, 432, 433, 434, 461, 469)
    • Biological (BIOL 278, 455, 469; PSYC 225)
    • Computational (COMP 101, 116, 401, 455; INLS 382, 500, 509, 512, 523, 541, 582, 613; MATH 566; PSYC 433; STOR 215, 305, 435, 565)
    • Linguistic (ANTH/INLS 520; INLS 512; LING 200, 201, 202, 401, 523, 540, 547; PHIL 145, 445; PSYC 432)
    • Philosophical (ANTH 146; ANTH/CMPL/FOLK 435; LING/PHIL 455; PHIL 145, 155, 164, 230, 335, 340, 440, 445)
    • Note: Students must earn a grade of C or better in at least four of the five courses.

Please note that courses used to satisfy the Psychology Major requirements cannot also satisfy the requirements in the Cognitive Science Minor. Our minors are open to all, including Psychology majors. Students are strongly advised to take PSYC 330 as early as possible once they have decided to pursue the Cognitive Science minor.

Neuroscience Minor

    • Prerequisites include PSYC 101 or BIOL 101

    • Psychology and Neuroscience (PSYC 220, 225, 245, 320, 330, 401, 402, 403, 404, 415, 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 428, 429, 434, 437, 469, 507, 533, 568, 602)
    • Biology (BIOL 252, 278, 431, 450, 451, 455, 552, 553)
    • Biomedical Engineering (BMME 430)
    • Chemistry (CHEM 430)
    • Computer Science (COMP 555)
    • Exercise and Sports Science (EXSS 380)
    • Mathematics (MATH 383, 528, 529, 547, 553, 564, 566, 577)
    • Physics (PHYS 405)
    • Statistics and Operations Research (STOR 215, 445, 455, 556, 565)
    • Note: Students may receive credit in the minor for BMME 445 or PSYC 220, but not both.

Please note that courses used to satisfy the Psychology Major requirements can also satisfy the requirements in the Neuroscience Minor, with the following limitation: more than half (not merely half) of the courses and course credit hours taken in the Neuroscience Minor must be exclusive to that minor. Our minors are open to all, including Psychology majors. Students are strongly advised to take PSYC 315 as early as possible once they have decided to pursue the Neuroscience minor.
