2009-2010 Colloquium Schedule

The Colloquia Committee is very pleased to announce the schedule for the 2009-2010 academic year.
All colloquia are scheduled for Wednesday, 3:30 – 5:00 pm in Davie Hall Room, 112, with the exception of the annual Patricia F.Waller Lecture (see details below).

This year there will be no reception prior to the speaker; however, we will make available opportunities to meet with the speaker.  Stay tuned for opportunities to get on the speakers schedules closer to the time of their visits.  Their schedules will be handled by the hosting programs.   


Fall 2009


November 11th: Dr. John Boren
The Colloquium Committee is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. John Boren to our Fall Calendar.  Dr. Boren, Senior Research Scientist of Treatment Research at NIDA and the Retired Chief of the NIDA Clinical and Behavioral Pharmacology Branch, will present an update on the findings from the STAR*D Studies.  Please join us in Davie Hall, Room 110, on Wednesday, November 11th, at 3:30 pm for his talk "Something's Wrong. Aren't Antidepressant Meds Effective? (A review of the STAR*D studies)."  In addition to his prolific career at NIDA, Dr. Boren is also a former clinical supervisor in our own Clinical Training Program and a long-time resident of Chapel Hill.  We look forward to seeing you all at Dr. Boren's talk.


Save the date for Spring 2010:


February 17th:
Dr. Daniel Nagin, Professor, Teresa and H. John Heinz III University Professor of Public Policy and Statistics, at Carnegie Mellon University.  Dr. Nagin utilizes semi-parametric group-based modeling (SPGM; PROC TRAJ) for analyzing developmental trajectories.

April 21st:  Dr. Anthony Liquory, Associate Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
Dr. Liquory’s research focuses on the effects of psychoactive compounds on mood, attention, memory, simulated driving, and psychomotor task performance. 

2010 Patricia F. Waller Lecture:  Speaker, Date,  & Time TBA
The lecture is held annually in memory of Dr. Patricia F. Waller, a UNC professor who founded the UNC Injury Prevention Research Center and was a pioneer in injury control. Dr. Waller also served at the UNC Highway Safety Research Center and received training for her graduate degree at the UNC-CH Department of Psychology. The lecture is sponsored by UNC Injury Prevention Research Center, The UNC Highway Safety Research Center, and the Department of Psychology.
