Margarett McBride, a graduate student in Developmental Psychology, is the recipient of a Black and Hooded Scholarship award.

The Black and Hooded Scholarship Fund seeks to promote academic excellence and degree attainment by creating an opportunity to alleviate financial burden for incoming Black graduate students. The hope and mission of the organization that the various scholarships that are awarded will help diversify the realm of higher education, generations of future scholars and professionals, and those to follow.

Margarett was selected due to her active undergraduate career in three research labs, community engagement internships, and her leadership in student organizations, including the National Council of Negro Women. Her lab experiences focused on well-being, community violence exposure, puberty, perceptions of gender and race, and representation in the media. Margarett is currently a first-year Developmental Psychology doctoral student and her research focuses on low-income, minority resiliency as it relates to community experiences, such as community-based program participation and community violence exposure.
