The following statement was released by the American Psychological Association (APA), the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychologists in the United States.

As faculty of the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, we believe that the statistics and research findings cited in the statement can help us to better understand the nature of traumatic memories associated with experiencing sexual assault and to better appreciate why children and adults may delay reporting or never report these experiences. We share this statement from APA to encourage informed understanding and compassion at a time of polarized and divisive public discourse.
