Dr. Deborah Jones, Professor of Clinical Psychology, is the awardee of a Zachary Taylor Smith Distinguished Term Professorship effective July 1, 2020 by UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences.

The Zachary Taylor Distinguished Term Professorship recognizes tenured faculty who are making exceptional contributions to undergraduate education at UNC Chapel Hill and is also intended to support and expand undergraduate research opportunities across the College. This year, two professorships were awarded across the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Division of Social Sciences and Global Programs to faculty members who are making outstanding contributions to research, scholarship, teaching, and mentoring undergraduate research and are truly committed to expanding undergraduate participation in original inquiry both inside and outside the classroom.

Each term professorship in undergraduate education and research has a four year term and each recipient receives a $6,000 annual salary stipend and a $5,000 annual project fund which may be used to incorporate research components in courses, creating new courses, traveling with undergraduate students to professional meetings, or developing programs to increase the number of mentors for undergraduate students. Congratulations, Dr. Jones!
