Dr. Marsha Penner, a lecturer in Psychology and Neuroscience, is the recipient of a 2015 APPLES Service-Learning Course Development Grant Award.

APPLES awards $3,500 service-learning course development grants to faculty and instructors across the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill campus. These grants are intended to assist professors in developing new or modifying existing courses that successfully integrate community-based service into the curriculum and promote the pedagogy of service-learning at UNC.

Dr. Penner won the award for her course, Special Topics in Neuroscience. This course explores the links between molecules, cells, systems and behavior. The focus will be neuroscience outreach, comparative neuroanatomy, human neuropathologies, electrical properties of neurons, synaptic physiology, and sensory and motor system function.
