Shawn Jones, a graduate student in Clinical Psychology, is the recipient of the first annual Bernadette Gray-Little Award, a diversity research award.

The purpose of the Bernadette Gray-Little Awards for Diversity Enhancement in Psychological Research is to encourage and honor students who make a contribution to the advancement of knowledge concerning issues that face diverse populations or that are of concern to diverse populations.

Shawn won for his work with Dr. Enrique Neblett. His research program focuses on racially-related protective factors and risk factors related to mental health among African Americans, including work on the role of racial identity priming on African American youths’ emotional responses to racism and dissertation work on racial socialization by black parents. He has additionally enhanced diversity with his commitment to mentoring undergraduate students from underrepresented minority groups. Shawn will begin a pre-doctoral internship at UCLA in the fall.
