Carrington Merritt, a senior majoring in Psychology, was awarded first place at the 2017 3rd Annual Summer Undergraduate Pipeline (SUP) Research Symposium.

The SUP Research Symposium provides an opportunity for undergraduate students engaging in research under the direction of UNC Chapel Hill faculty to present their research to a broad audience of faculty, staff, students, and the general public.

Carrington won for her oral presentation, “Correlates and Consequences of Social Defeat: Implications for Schizophrenia.” In her presentation, Carrington explored factors associated with individuals’ perceptions of social defeat in a non-clinical population and examined how social defeat may be related to schizophrenia-risk. Her faculty mentors include Dr. Keely Muscatell, an Assistant Professor of Social Psychology, and Dr. David Penn, a Professor of Clinical Psychology. Congratulations, Carrington!
