Dr. Viji Sathy, a Teaching Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, is a recipient of the 2020 University Teaching Award – the Chapman Family Teaching Award.

The Chapman Family Teaching Awards were created in 1993 with a gift during the Bicentennial Campaign from Max Carrol Chapman Jr. ’66 on behalf of the Chapman family. The awards were established to honor distinguished teaching of undergraduate students.

Dr. Sathy, along with 24 other faculty members and graduate students, have been named winners of Carolina’s 2020 University Teaching Awards. The University Committee on Teaching Awards, which oversees the selection process, encouraged students to nominate deserving faculty and graduate teaching assistants for the awards. The committee specifically sought nominations with a commitment to care of our students, outstanding mentorship, and effective use of classroom methods. The winner of the Chapman Family Teaching Award receives a stipend of $30,000 to be used over a period of five years and a framed citation. Dr. Sathy will also be recognized at half-time of the UNC-Wake Forest men’s basketball game on March 3, 2020 and will be honored at an awards banquet on April 21, 2020. Congratulations to Dr. Sathy on this well-deserved honor!
