Dr. Sara Algoe, an Associate Professor of Social Psychology, was named to Greater Good Magazine’s Top 10 Insights from the “Science of a Meaningful Life” List in 2020.

Greater Good Magazine’s top insights speak to the moment, from concrete tips about how to bond with a friend to broader truths about how societies respond to diversity over time. All of these insights point toward strengths and solutions amid isolation, illness, and conflict. The final insights were selected by experts on their staff, after soliciting nominations from our network of more than 300 researchers.

Dr. Algoe was selected for her insights on witnessing gratitude and kindness helps bond people together, particularly for her study published in 2020 in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology that suggests that these effects extend beyond the people involved in an exchange of thanks—all the way to people who only observe expressions of gratitude.
