Ria Shelton, a graduating senior, is the recipient of an Honorable Mention for the 2020-21 Susan M. McHale Diversity in Research Award.

The purpose of the Susan M. McHale Award for Outstanding Psychological Research by a Student Who Enhances Diversity is to encourage and honor students from under-represented groups who make a contribution to the advancement of knowledge of psychological science.

Ria received an honorable mention for her work with the Family Journeys Co-Lab (Hussong) and Social and Emotion Interaction Lab (Algoe). Ria co-presented this important work at the North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium and examined such topics as gendered racism and the effects of parent separation associated with the pandemic. She plans to apply for a Clinical Psychology doctoral programs after gaining more research experience in the year ahead. Ria was honored with the Susan M. McHale Honorable Mention at the Psychology and Neuroscience Departmental Awards Ceremony on May 5, 2021. Congratulations, Ria!
